A Golden Moment in Telluride

It’s been a rough summer for dog photography!  June started out with a drought, and instead of our usual green surroundings, there was a lot of brown.  After returning from a several week vacation in July, it started raining every day, which was a relief, but meant I had to delay a few sessions due to rain.  Finn’s mom and dad had been waiting since June for their photo session, and were wonderful about all the delays….and their patience paid off because by August, it was green, and we lucked out with gorgeous early evening light.  I met Krista and Randy a few years ago at the store when they needed some advice about their aging Golden, and then advice about how to find a reputable breeder.  That info paid off, and they ended up with Finn, a goofy, fun-loving, responsive, sweet, and gorgeous Golden puppy.   Well, at a year and a half, I consider that still a puppy!

We had our first session at the river, which suited Finn just fine.

Told you he was gorgeous.  🙂  Check out that tail!

I love the river in the evening so we spent a lot of time in the water.  You can tell it was torture for Finn….

I think that looks like a happy face….

We took a few minutes to chill out in the flowers.   Is that Finn biting his lip and ruining a beauty shot?  No way!

Is that Finn ruining a beauty shot by flipping his ear back?  No!  Oh for goodness sakes, he is a retriever after all.  What do you expect.

I love this shot because it makes Finn look like an itty bitty puppy.

But then there is the grown up, handsome, regal Finn.

Finn’s mom said that he drools a lot after drinking, but I don’t believe her.  Well, maybe I do…

Uh oh.  Chaos ensued when they pulled out a brand new frisbee.  Finn started doing zoomies, running in circles so fast I had trouble tracking him with my camera.  The fact that I was cracking up didn’t help!  I wish frisbees brought me this much joy!

Okay, just one more.  🙂

This is just a glimpse of what took place in about 45 minutes.  Finn was a very easy dog to photograph, due to his owners teaching him a good recall off-leash, and basic obedience commands.  The earlier you start training, the easier it is when they are older!   Yes, he went crazy at the end, but stayed close to us.

Just when I thought the session was over, we had a visitor.  Picabo!  Picabo is a local pup, and they played together for about another 15 minutes, and I got plenty of fun shots.  This post is about Finn though, so I will post those later, and just give you a sample of Picabo and Finn together….

Crazy pups!!  As I always do, I am ending with a beauty shot of Finn (not a difficult task).  You’ll be seeing more off Finn in a few months, because Krista and Randy want him photographed with the fall colors when they come back to Telluride.    I’m looking forward to it, to say the least!  It was so great to see you again, and a joy to photograph Finn.  I’ll see you both soon!

Carolyn The river shots are so pretty. Love the first one with his beautiful tail. Looks like a perfect day for the shoot.

Vikci Love your action shots of Finn with the frisbee, oh, and that tail is gorgeous.
Finn is one handsome pup!

Karen What a fabulous series of photos! I love the variety you got — animated expressions, action shots, silly shots, regal gorgeous shots! What a fun pup!

Rhea Jen, you do an amazing job of capturing the “heart” of the dogs you photograph! Plus, you must have a very fast camera and/or fast reflexes to get such amazing action shots.

These pictures made me 🙂

Tiffany What a beautiful pup! Love the shots and his beautiful tail feathers!!!

Don Thee are wonderful shots; a gorgeous subject and a gorgeous setting. I love the shot is the water, but you got a nice variety as well.

Jenn You have the gift of capturing the personality of each dog! Marvelous!
