Another lost to the Rainbow Bridge…

A foreword to Toni Jo, who I know wishes I didn’t post this, as it will likely be too hard for her to look at.  You don’t need to look at this now, but I felt it was important to honor Cruiser with a tribute of sorts, as he was special to me as well.  I hope someday this brings a smile to your face along with the tears.

Earlier this year we lost Sophie, a dear Bernese Mountain dog who left behind her brother Max who was confused by the absence of his only partner he’d ever known.  A few weeks ago, Cruiser, who I photographed with his sister in 2010, suddenly fell very ill and was let go, leaving his litter sister, who is equally confused by the absence of her brother.  We all hope that she recovers soon from the loss – her spirit is strong and hopefully time will help her adjust to being an only dog.  Cruiser was the more submissive of the two, and followed “Sissy’s” (Snuggles) lead – often chasing deer when he otherwise wouldn’t think of it and doing other naughty things.  However, he was more than happy to take the scraps off the kitchen counter all by himself.  🙂  Cruiser was a sweet boy and gone too soon.  Snugs was the more exuberant one, but given the chance, Cruiser had his moments.  Here are a few of my favorite photos from our session.

Cruiser was really a love bug and more than happy to go where his mom was!

Most of all he had such a sweet spirit. This photo was purchased as canvas wraps by two veterinary offices to grace their waiting rooms.  I can’t imagine a better image to be looking at while I wait for the vet.  Those soft ears, sincere eyes, and wrinkles are so appealing.

One of my favorite photos.

There are many quotes applicable to losing pets.  Knowing I could never live without a dog, the one I find the most comfort in is by Irving Townsend:

“We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle; easily and often breached.  Unable to accept its awful gaps, we would still live no other way.  We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan.”

Goodbye, sweet boy.  Your mom and dad will miss you more than you know.

Carolyn A lovely tribute, Jen. The photo’s are beautiful.

Karen So sorry for this loss & sadness. What beautiful photos of a boy so clearly sweet & sincere — a very touching tribute!

Deb so very sad. so sorry for this hard hard loss. beautiful photos of this sweet boy.

Joy Maynard Jen, just wanted to post here as well because if it were me ……I know I would appreciate it. Words can’t begin to express how moved I was seeing these photos of Cruiser and his mom. You can see in the photos the love between them! And the best part is you helped preserve memories that will last a lifetime! Can’t put a price on that….wish I could have done this with our first dog….she died very suddenly and unexpected from cancer. So we live and learn and do better. What a gift you have given …..
That is painful now but will forever be a sweet memory down the road……a photo captures so much…….the emotion was hard for me knowing Cruiser just recently went to heaven……but she will see him again….I have no doubt. My heart aches for her …..I so know that pain….such a deep loss. In time, these precious photos will warm her heart …..and then when she’s ready….consider a puppy to help heal . It really made a huge difference for me and my dog that was left and depressed from our loss……I grieved for a long time….and having my current Duchess come into our lives 2 months after Lady died was such a blessing! She was soooo happy that I couldn’t be sad…..she was truly an answer to prayer! My deepest sympathies to Cruiser’s mom…..with kind regards, joy
