Telli and Maddie (Goldens take over Telluride yet again)!

Well, as you can see, I am just a bit behind on my photography blog.  I’m in the process of updating it (a long process), and sadly my session entries have taken a toll.  Although Krissi and her husband received their order a long time ago, Telli and Maddie still deserve a place here….exceptionally easy subjects and gorgeous early fall colors made for a fun time with some wonderful images of these two sisters.   Photographing dogs is a joy when I have sessions like this.  They look so much alike, I really had a hard time telling them apart in photos!  I have some other posts to enter soon, but until then, here are Telli and Maddie!

We did manage to keep them on dry land for a while.  🙂

But not too long!!!

Beautiful even in black and white.

Mine!
I adore this photo.  The power of the Golden’s drying mechanism.  And ending with a photo I love of both of them.  They are very bonded and most of the time played with each other.  Water, a tennis ball….what else is needed to make a retriever happy?

Carolyn Beautiful photo’s Jen. Looks like it was a gorgeous day for it also.

Summer in Telluride and Dog Photography – A Beautiful Combination

HELLO SUMMER!
It’s finally here.  The leaves have come out, and we have gotten some decent rain, which means…you should think about booking your July  session now.  It’s prime wildflower season and I won’t be available after the 15th (until August).   I grabbed some quick shots from previous summers to give you an idea of how fun a river trail session can be for water loving dogs, and that there are wildflowers even down in town.  You can also go under categories and then chose summer – it will give you all of sessions to check out!  My first summer booking is this week – lets hope the rain clears out and we get some beautiful skies!

Telluride, Two Dogs, and Snow = A Great Photography session!

Tiffany and Jeff, you are the BEST for being so patient for this blog to be posted!  I’ve had a crazy few months and poor Walter and George have been neglected.  For those who follow the blog and think “Gosh those names sound familiar…” I did a session with the dogs several years ago in early summer.  Walter is getting older, and she really wanted to do another session, this time in the winter.  Reasons like this are why I got into dog photography in the first place, as I was left with very few photos of my first dog, and it broke my heart.  Walter and George were SO fun, and they are so bonded it was really something that made your heart melt.  So without further ado, here is 11 year old Walter.

And Walter wouldn’t be complete without George.  The younger, pesky brother.  🙂

Although Tiffany wanted most of the focus on Walter, we got plenty of the boys playing!  It would have been impossible not to.  Waiting for the ball to be thrown is one of their favorite games….

When you don’t get the ball, sassing off is allowed.  Those are the rules!

Some more of just Walter…

And then more playtime!!

And last, we will end with a shot of Walter, and his beautiful wispy ears.  🙂  Thanks Tiffany for trusting me to get the special photos you wanted of your boy, I sure had fun!  There is nothing better than snow, the river, and two happy Goldens!

Carolyn These are all so great I’d have a hard time picking a favorite. But, if I had to it would be the ones of them waiting for the ball to be thrown by the river and the one of Walter howling . They are all very special. Great job Jen.

vicki holmen Jen, The photos of Walter and George are incredably beautiful. I was so moved, and glad, and sad, to look at the rare beauty, joy, and fun these dogs have in your pictures, forever. How gifted you are, Jen. We are very, very fortunate to have had you shoot our dogs too. Thank you Jen for sharing your marvelous talent vicki

Telluride dog photography – in canvas!

Summer is almost here!  I’m already getting bookings for June, so please don’t wait until the last minute to book a summer session since I am unavailable for some of June and July.  Early summer is SO gorgeous with a much smaller chance of afternoon rain.  In the meantime, I couldn’t help but share some of the stunning canvases ordered this April.   Some clients are hesitant to order canvas due to the price, but they are worth every penny.  I had a customer come in to my store while one that was 24×36 was being unveiled to a client and she said “oh my gosh it looks like it is 3D!” — that is why I love canvas.

But beware….every place that prints photos now sells canvas.  Don’t be fooled.  I’ve tried even some different pro labs to try to lower my price point for clients, and the quality is vastly different, as is mounting.  One company I found was not using real wood stretchers, but CARDBOARD, which wasn’t obvious at all until you took it apart. It never would have stood the test of time.

Here is a canvas order from a session I haven’t posted yet.  This is 11 year old Walter, a special boy with LOADS of personality.  Can you tell?  🙂

There were tons of great “beauty shots” of Walter, but I love that they chose one that shows his awesome personality.  What a sassy boy!

And here is Jetta, who is no longer a puppy!  Who wouldn’t love the flying ears and that big puppy paw covered in snow coming at you?

From Gus and Shami’s session…..they wanted a canvas of both the dogs, and the owners had a hard time resisting the gorgeous background.

And lastly, from a session that also isn’t posted, this is handsome Cooper.  Cooper is a STUNNING Flat-Coated Retriever from the same breeder as my dog, Blue.  He is young and still hasn’t filled out entirely, but I think as he ages, he will be drop dead gorgeous!

Thats all for now!  Sorry it has been so long since an update, it has been a crazy few months!

Illinois dogs take over Telluride

The photo session that almost didn’t happen!  When Mark and Leanne told me they were in town for three weeks, I figured we had plenty of time.  But between my travel schedule and the weather, this session took place the day before they left town – cutting it a bit close for comfort!  They were awesome about all the rescheduling though, as well as my frazzled state on the day of the session, since I had to cut out of the store early (I was determined that they get their photos).   Getting coverage at the store turned out to be worth it – both Mark and Leanne came, as well as Justin, their twelve year old son, and of course the dogs!  Meet Scooter,  a 3 year old Lab/Brittany mix, and Bella, a 9 year old Weimaraner!

We decided to have the session on the river trail, since we had two water dogs on our hands.  They wasted no time checking it out….

Scooter explores the ice….very carefully!Justin needs to move to Telluride….he was a wonderful “dog wrangler” when needed, getting one dog out of the way, or encouraging another dog to get into a certain area, and I think I need to hire him!  Although he was mostly out of the shots, I caught some great moments between him and Scooter, who was more than happy to play some frisbee!

Once the Flying Squirrel was out, the mania began!  She may be nine years old, but Bella isn’t too old to get in on the action!

Scooter wasn’t ready to give it up, though, and wanted to show his goofy side.

Poser!

I found Scooter so interesting.  In all my years of owning a dog boutique, I have never seen a mix like him.  All the markings of a Brittany, but the size and conformation of a Lab.  He was really gorgeous.

Not to be outdone, Bella was quite the beauty, and equally adept at posing naturally for me.

All dogs at some point or another stick their nose into the snow!  I’d love to know what that is about, silly Bella!

Ending with two “beauty shots”  –  one of Bella against the backdrop of the North Ridge, and one of Scooter with Ajax in the background.   I am so glad this session FINALLY ended up happening, thank you so much to Mark, Leanne, and of course Justin!  I hope to see you back in Telluride this summer, make sure you bring the pups in for some cookies!

Carolyn Another great job, Jen. Beautiful day and beautiful dogs.

Maggie Scooter and Bella make two stunning subjects and they look right at home romping in Telluride! Love the one of Scooter ‘walking on water’ with his reflection and of Bella’s crazy face too, she looks like a pup. And of course Scooter with his boy, priceless.

Don What a beautiful, bright day. There are some incredibly sharp shots of two really photogenic dogs. I too love the one of Scooter on the ice. The reflection is perfect. Also, the one of Bella running up the hill with the snow flying looks like it belongs over a fireplace.
