For a little bit of California fun! I’m a bit delayed in getting these pups on the blog, and hope that Keli forgives me! We did this session with Keli’s seven dogs on her property in the foothills of San Jose, California. Yes, I said seven! Five flat-coated retrievers, and two standard long-haired dachshunds. Talk about dog heaven….most of this shoot took place around the lake, but there is plenty of open space, and acres of woods that haven’t been landscaped for the dogs to run and play (and chase wild turkeys and deer)! It was complete and utter chaos from the moment the dogs were let loose, and on top of the high speed chases, I was dealing with mostly very overcast weather, but we made the best of it, and I have to say I sure laughed a lot! There were dogs everywhere!
I grew up with a standard long-haired, and with everyone wanting itty bitty dogs these days, standards are pretty rare. Meet Quincy and Quagmire ….
They might be smaller than the flat-coats, but they don’t know it. Lola seems to be saying “Please. You are so undignified. Remove yourself at once.”
And whoever thinks dachshunds don’t like water haven’t met these two. They are like little otters.
Watch out for flying dachshunds! They are truly airborne when running at top speed.
Some dock action….always waiting for someone to throw something…..
Ummm…..look. If you aren’t going to throw something, we’ll just pretend there is something there. Ready, set…..
And in fact, there is something there! Julia decides bubbles are lots of fun to try to retrieve! Good luck, girl!
Maestro enjoys swimming along the edge, while Casino waits at the other side for a bumper.
Here is Casino before he went swimming, handsome boy!
And I think this is Maestro…..
Uh oh…I see an ambush coming! This is Maestro and Julia (I think it is Julia… it was hard to tell them apart when they were wet)!
The girls found a special stick to show off.
I usually end with a “beauty shot”, but I would have been there all day if I had to get all seven dogs at once in the frame! So I leave you with a group shot with a few of the dogs, waiting for Keli to throw the bumper….I think this was a rare moment of stillness. I hope you enjoyed the photos Keli…I do apologize for the delay!
